Italy and Spain, 14th to 19th century

Italian art did not figure among Oskar Reinhart's principal interests. The fact that he nevertheless acquired an outstanding painting by Jacopo Bassano testifies to his expert knowledge and excellent connoisseurship. Of Spanish artists he was particularly drawn to El Greco and Francisco de Goya. Like German turn-of-the-century aficionados of French Impressionism, he saw in Goya one of Impressionism's greater precursors.

Master of the Madonna della Misericordia (active third quarter of the 14th century), Jacopo da Ponte, called Jacopo Bassano (c. 1515-1592), Jacopo Tintoretto (1518-1594), Francesco Guardi (1712-1793), Dominikos Theotokópoulos, called El Greco (1541-1614), Francisco de Goya (1746-1828)
