Special tours or workshops for school classes

From March 21st 2017:
Free admission for schools (max. 25 pupils per group) and two teachers including tour − registration required

Directions by public transport

Special guided tour − combined with the “Zauberklang” (magical sound) tour

Blaring out loud, fiddling quietly, moving piano keys as if by magic and making figures dance, the music automatons are a unique treat for the ears, as well as for the eyes. A one-hour guided tour through three rooms ─ each devoted to a different theme ─ introduces the visitor to the aural world of mechanical musical instruments. Youngsters discover the ancestors of their iPods and the variety and history of self-playing musical devices; they can also conduct little experiments in resonance, sound and mechanics.

Our young visitors can create their own perforated "music roll" on this "Zauberklang" tour by answering 10 questions, punching corresponding holes in a strip of paper, and finally playing the completed melody on a music box device: experimenting with a century-old technique for storing tunes.

Suitable for children in Year 2 and upwards. Overall duration around 90 minutes. Contact us if you have any questions.
